Since there are so many catagories/votes, just posting with your selection, opposed to a formal forum vote post, is the way it will need to be done...

I will tally the votes, and if I cannot disagree with the result, there is your winner per catagory.

For 2nd/3rd etc place, I will decide per catagory if I will use more than the 1st place entry.

With ABSOLUTELY NO screenshots, etc from movies, tv, etc?

1Mil UU for best banner(725x90);
1Mil UU for best "square" (125x125);
500,000UU for best 'race pic' (125x125) - for each of the 4 main races.
500,000UU for best 'race pic' (125x125) - ascended races.

will use this thread, will ask a mod to take ownership of it (please state who will do this on the thread) and contest will run for a month, give or take.

the 'finalists' will get voted on by the community, in this or a different post.

i reserve the right to decline or veto any image - but if in good taste, not copyrighted, and good - i promise i will not
Also - with the banners & race pics, there may be more than 1 winner if they are good enough - at 10% less per 2nd/3rd place, etc. (so 3rd place would get 80% of 1mil UU IF it is also chosen to use).

we've tried this before, but mostly got great collages (sp?) of tv or movie screenshots... if this time is different, i will be very pleased

ps - officially, any SGW image can be used anywhere, assuming it links back to the sgw site...

Ok,

Here's the story, the internet cafe where I work wants to redesign their home page when you first open IE or FF.. So since I am the only one who works there that knows anything about designing a webpage (the last guy quit and changed all the passwords etc and for minimum wage I wouldn't blame him)


Anywho.. Thanks to yours truely there was no real setback.. So anyway back to the story at hand.. They want to redesign the home page apon opening the internet browser so I want to put a link to SGW up there..


Here is the catch the current image is too large for me to put it in the page so I need something a lot smaller..


So I have 2 requests

1. Permission from admin to put it there..

&

2. Someone to design a smaller logo for the page.. Something roughly 200 x 200..

If anyone can help give us a shout..

Just to let you know I will be putting other text based games on here.. I don't want SGW to be left out cos its my favourite

the problem is the current gui and graphics are crap. They really need updating

I have to agree with iKon on this one esp sincre all the other games graphics look the job..

Sorry to say this but SGW your Imaging needs a major overhaul..

Thing is this could so easily be made into a competition..

Somthing simple like 1 million UU to the best designed graphic as voted on by the community would do it.. But alas I am not a member of the admin team.. So I can only offer something smaller like 100K

have to agree on the current graphics, and ascensions graphics look like something I put together.

Would you rather we had better graphics and consequently bigger filesizes for them taking them longer to load for the X many players connected at any one time. Think how long the turn cycle is now, then multiply it by like 3 if we had nice shiny pictures.

Making good graphics with small file sizes isn't hard. Also they would get loaded into your cache so wouldn't hog page loading times.

Dude i have an IT degree, its not about the cache, many ppl regularly empty their cache and what about players whose 'computers' don't cache files? You know IBM PC clones aren't the only computers in the world right? Plus of course you can tell your browser not to cache images and cookies etc. Cache isn't this wonderful catch all you know that everyone uses.

Think about it for one moment would you? Assuming an average load of 1000 players at anyone time if you have to serve the same graphic to just half of those then if the graphic is of the quality some people seem to want out of this game its gonna slow the server down significantly.

EDIT: I feel I should mention that my final year dissertation was on lag in network / internet gaming so just possibly I feel that I may just know a thing or two about the subject

EDIT2: It seems ppl are also forgetting that images arent the only thing transferred. Think about the data for training/attacking/sabbing etc the list goes on. All that has to be sent as well as the images to however many ppl are connected. Its not exactly a small amount of data when you have 1000+ players

EDIT in reply to agapooka : Whenever ppl have suggested images they have being images that would be significantly larger than than those used currently. Of course a better image doesnt need to mean an increased file size but I am using the historic precedent that exists from ppl mentioning things like this.

Hence I see no reason to not continue on that assumption until someone does provide what would be considered a better image with a similar or smaller file size than those currently used

Of course I am well aware of that but how many times have ppl brought up the images? And how many of those times have images being posted as examples that were the same size or smaller? None that I can remember.

The term "better images" doesn't [necessarily] mean bigger images. This isn't about images lacking resolution and such as much as it is a complaint about them being poorly designed.

A well-designed graphic could be way smaller in size than one that was created by a less skilled individual. It doesn't take someone with an IT degree to know that, and apparently, some people with IT degrees don't...

Agreed, SGW only every had one good theme, and that was along time ago, now its just an eye sore. I thinkt anyone who has never visited the site before wouldnt register unless they where told to do so by a friend.
